Cyber Minute from the Road: Don't Let Your Cybersecurity Get This Old
Driftwood Beach is one of the most photographed spots on Jekyll Island, but the trees tell a story most people don't know. They once stood in a healthy maritime forest. Over time, erosion changed the shoreline, exposing the roots, toppling the trees, and leaving behind the landscape we see today.
It reminded me that time changes everything.
Technology changes. Cyber threats change. And if your cybersecurity hasn't changed in years, it may not be protecting you the way you think.
Technology changes quickly, and unfortunately, cybercriminals change even faster. The antivirus software that worked well years ago wasn't designed for many of the threats we see today. Modern attacks are smarter, quieter, and often don't look like traditional viruses at all.
That doesn't mean antivirus has no value. It just means it shouldn't be your only line of defense.
Modern protection goes beyond looking for known viruses. It monitors for suspicious activity, unusual behavior, and signs that something isn't right, helping stop threats before they become expensive problems.
Just because your computer seems to be working normally doesn't mean it's fully protected. Like many things in technology, what worked yesterday may not be enough tomorrow.
One of the reasons I started Cyber Minute from the Road is because I enjoy finding interesting places that also remind us of everyday lessons. Sometimes those lessons come from history. Sometimes they come from a beach full of driftwood.
If it's been a while since you've thought about your computer's security, now is a good time to see what modern protection can do.
Stay safe out there.
